We'd watch the first launches at home if it was really early, but if it was during school hours, they'd bring a TV into our elementary school classroom so we could all watch it live! And when there was the first moon landing, I was away at summer camp in the mountains of Vermont. We had no access to TVs back then, but it just happened that my friend and I were walking past the camp nurse's cabin at just the right time - she had a small TV, so she called us to hurry inside so we could see it. I was so excited that we were the only campers who were lucky enough to see it, great memory!
