Besides the constant refrain of "that proposal wouldn't have stopped the last mast shooter from accessing a weapon" misses the point. The goal isn't to keep an already dead murderer from buying more guns but to protect public safety more generally. As you rightly have pointed out, far more people die from daily gun violence.
