2. No, it would take some coding by the admins, and their plate is full.

I believe it’s possible for a user to write a script on their computer that saves your login cookie to grab the front page, and then parse the output to see if Inbox (0) isn’t zero. This is for techies, and most people couldn’t run it (it would run in a terminal)

All things take coding and experimentation. That’s the easy part. The hard part is support.
