14. I Am A Former Catholic

Grew up in the Parish, went to Catholic School, was Baptized, took Communion, did Confession, was Confirmed, the whole nine yards. I am now an Agnostic and what I call a Cultural Humanist. Strangely, I always had a healthy skepticism even when being socialized into Catholicism. The Nuns and Catholic Women that taught me were all Vatican Two people who really taught compassion, which I think is why I have always been a Progressive. So that was an important part of my upbringing. They also had a pretty good Science Program in my school, so that helped sharpen my mind as well. To me a lot of Catholicism is ritual and play-acting. But I appreciate it as a culture even though I am Agnostic. I don't appreciate conservative Catholics and the corruption in the Church though. Francis was pretty progressive for a Pope. I hope the next one is too.
