They really should have included an experimental archaeologist. S/ He'd have sourced clay, pit fired an alembic, and had them well on the way to shooing the bugs away. An entomologist would have suggested a bundle of smoldering leaves, bugs don't like smoke. In addition, 3 days isn't long enough.

And please, if you're going to be crashing around in the bush anywhere, it's long pants, long sleeves, a floppy hat, and waffle stompers. Also a cell phone and known itinerary if you're not on a reality show.
