2. Art Bell was a road trip staple for those late night/early morning journeys on any dark, lonely highway.

For us, that was usually the run between Boise and Denver using several different routes.

Scratching from one AM station to the next, one could easily stay awake and alert while listening to him interview almost always interesting guests on any number of unusual topics.

Those ubiquitous AM commercials were annoying but surrounded by unique bumper music that ran the gamut of tastes.

I never knew that bit about screening calls or just why he left the air. Coast to Coast just wasn't the same without him.
