2. He did actually. Hamilton was born on Nevis in the Brit. West Indies.

As a boy he worked for merchants there who with other sponsors helped him attend King's College (Columbia) in NYC in 1773.

I don't know what any if procedure there was then for former British colonists from the 13 colonies in North America and other Brit. holdings to become American citizens. Same for people of Dutch, German, Swiss or other backgrounds who were already in America.
