4. "They...have to work again", they meaning the other, the not-me, not-us

"American workforce is a singular noun naming a collective. It is the reference for the word "they".

The use of the plural word "they" is grammatically incorrect, however it clearly sends the message of 'the other', them, they, workers, the used and useful for the "me/we".

The free-money vs free-labor conflict continues. The wealth of the few is essentially free money for them, created by labor that is severely underpaid; some labor hours are essentially unpaid wage theft.
