7. I think of the Austin neighborhood when I read West side.

Chicago has 77 official neighborhoods. Stats show Austin as having a range of 8 to 11% of Chicago's murders each year.

You're right about their lack of life expectancy.

As far as homes not having that much capacity, my old neighborhood (Belmont-Cragin, the one north of Austin) was teeming with "3-flats", so that's what I pictured. These folks probably don't remember that balcony/porch that collapsed in Chicago a few years back, killing several and putting a bunch more in the hospital. They were all dancing too.

These people know something's gonna kill them. This way, the police save a lot of chalk and crime-scene tape.
