Except for one demonstrator, there was little support for former President Donald Trump outside the state Capitol today on the opening day of the Legislature.

But seven members of sustainability group Hui Aloha Aina Momona said they had a day-long permit to express their beliefs and planted miniature Hawaiian flags on the Capitol lawn.

State sheriff’s deputies patrolled inside barricades that had been erected as a precaution following the violent siege on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 that led to heightened security at state Capitols across the country.

On the mauka side of Beretania Street, directly across from the Capitol, a lone Trump supporter who identified himself as Edward Rambo Odquina, of Hawaii Kai, showed up in fatigues waving a Trump flag. Odquina wore no mask and smoked a cigarette. Honolulu police officers asked if he was armed. He wasn’t.

Oh, Honolulu 🌸🤙🏼
