Hackers suspected of working for Iran are threatening to leak allegedly stolen data in a bid to undermine President Donald Trump, the nations top cybersecurity agency said Monday night.
Though the warning from the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency did not reference a specific foreign adversary, an agency spokesperson confirmed the hackers were suspected of working with Iran.
A hostile foreign adversary is threatening to illegally exploit purportedly stolen and unverified material in an effort to distract, discredit and divide, reads the statement attributed to Marci McCarthy, CISAs director of public affairs. The alleged hacking campaign comes as relations between the United States and Iran remain tense after the U.S. joined Israel in striking Iranian nuclear sites last month.
