We have to understand the dismantling of Roe as being an assault against democracy, says Georgetown Law professor Michele Goodwin. This week, a Louisiana woman pleaded not guilty to a felony charge after allegedly giving her teenage daughter abortion-inducing medication that was prescribed and shipped from a doctor in New York, where the medication is legal.
The NYC-based doctor was also indicted on a felony charge for allegedly prescribing and sending the medication to Louisiana after a telemedicine appointment. Once you begin to say that womens lives have no meaning, that their autonomy, that their equal protection, that all of the things that are protected in the constitutional rights do not apply to them, then you can say then for other people too in other circumstances. - Aired on 03/15/2025.

(42,189 posts)To do away with the separation of church and state. The church in many of its forms has been dealing with and throwing around its weight in the affairs of state. The separation apparently doesnt apply to the Church. Fine. Do away with the separation and turn loose the assessors. Imagine the revenue generated by taxing all those Catholic properties. It would put musk out of business and get all the US Bishops fired, Balance our budget and give Churchs a pause. Religious freedom does not include forcing your beliefs on others while maintaining your tax exempt status.

(233,049 posts)What ever happened to "the separation of church and state?" I was still in elementary school when they eliminated the daily "school prayer" which wasn't all that religious. Now other states are mandating posting The 10 Commandments be displayed in classrooms?? How is that allowed all these years later? Sure sounds like advocating religion to me.
Religious Zealots sure do love their freedom. And trump wants to make them happy. Because he has no idea what freedom is. Never has. Never will. Meanwhile, decent human beings suffer because he has a mandate. Another lie.
HAPPY ST PATS DAY MY FRIEND!

(42,189 posts)My Maternal Great Grandparents immigrated from Ireland. I think I inherited a bit of Irish temper. Not necessarily a bad thing. My Irish Grandpa was born in Philadelphia in 1900.

(233,049 posts)And my Irish grandfather was born in Saratoga County, NY, in 1892, I think. He and his brother signed up to fight for this country in WWI. My grandfather delivered ammunition to the front on horseback (I have his discharge papers) and my great uncle fought at the front and was awarded the Silver Star. My great grandfather's farm is now part of Saratoga Battlefield since one of the buildings was Revolutionary War vintage. My relatives who knew my grandfather all have fond memories of him, but I never met him since he died in 1940 when my Dad was 12. *sigh*
