(19,299 posts)It is a strange time to be part of this history. I've lived so long (since 1947) in a country that mainly followed some rules. I'm a white male so I didn't suffer under the injustices of others during these years. And I feel deeply for their pains and losses.

(233,049 posts)I have often wondered how history will record these bizarre times - now I wonder if we will have one. I'm old enough to remember the bicentennial - and we are just a year away from 250 years of this unique democracy. And I can't help wondering if we will still have one a year from now, we're seeing changes happen so quickly. I live in Revolutionary War country and have ancestors who fought, and I can't help noting the similarities.
