Lawrence: Because of Musk and Trump, for the first time Social Security payments are not guaranteed - The Last Word MSNBC

MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell explains how Elon Musk, whose only mission in government is to cut payments, has gained control over Social Security and put those payments in jeopardy for the first time, proving that President Roosevelt was right when he said, "No damn politician can ever scrap my Social Security program." - Aired on 02/17/2025.

4. So many Americans depend on Social Security as their sole income, I do not understand how they can get away with this

The government is elected to make life better for and protect Americans, not impoverish them.

Unfortunately Trump, Musk, and their underlings are fascist and racist sociopaths. They don't care about the well-being of Americans. In fact, they probably do not even consider people to be actual American citizens unless you are a white right wing male Christian. The elderly, the disabled, and the poor are all disposable to these kinds of sociopaths. The only thing that will stop them is a justified use of force. If they kill Social Security it might cause an uprising. A lot of people's parents and grandparents are on Social Security- Republicans, Democrats, and Independents. One in five Americans are on Social Security, and that doesn't include their families and friends. That is a lot of people to piss off. And it could unite people from all parts of the political spectrum.

As much as I don't want this to happen, this is what it might take to get people to rise up and demand action against Musk and, I hope, Trump. But they must realize this is a possibility and that might hold them back. At least for awhile.

7. You're right, but before they get angry, Americans will suffer, and that's not the job of the government, to hurt people

The main job of the government, why candidates get elected, is to make life better for constituents. But what's happening now is that TFG and his co-president are harming government workers, ignoring judges, and causing general anxiety among the people with their irresponsibility and threats, just the opposite of the job they should be doing. This duo are certainly candidates for impeachment, but we tried that twice (for the first time in our history) and members of Congress are too afraid of the repercussions and threats to do the right thing. We're stuck between a rock and a hard place.

...are they too fucking stupid to know/see what is happening?

a news break on the radio today mentioned some poll that was taken--apparently there are a lot of those assholes that think he's doing a good job and that we should just give him a chance.

10. Article On Trump's Poll Numbers
Tue Feb 18, 2025, 05:30 PM
Feb 18

Trump's numbers are not as good as they are making them out to be. Below is a link to an article on Trump's polling numbers. If you read the article closely, it is clear that Trump's popularity is unusually low for a President this early in their term. Also, Trump's disapproval rate is higher than his approval rate, so he is underwater. His popularity is high for Trump, but low when compared to other Presidents going back to Eisenhower.
