Did anyone else receive a letter from SS about his/her account?
Mine requested I update/verify my information, which I did willingly.
It also provided an Account Activation Code
It asked me to finish setting up my online account or upgrade it
I went about setting up my online account again (which had already been created) just to ensure the info was correct
When I clicked on the various fields (e,g, what my SS# is) I saw that there were garbage characters
Same for my birth date
And some of the other fields (email, for instance)
I can't help thinking that this misinformation was perpetrated by THEM in order to confuse me.

(24,121 posts)As I said, I logged in again to make sure my info was correct, and found it was.
Still, after that story about their downloading "new software" (untested), I wanted to make sure it looked OK
Can't believe what those monsters have done/are doing

(66,828 posts)Simply set forth my monthly benefit amount, eligibility for survivor benefits, Medicare & that sort of thing.
I just looked at it again to ensure I didn't miss a request for me to log on. Nothing like that.
Save the letter you received. We might all need them to prove what is owed to us!
One thing I found particularly important was a statement (on page 2 of 3) that benefits are for life.

(24,121 posts)The letter itself didn't seem suspicious-- what WAS suspicious was that some of my data had somehow changed to garbage characters. I can't help thinking that this is tied in with those creeps who "somehow" managed to bungle the new software by (supposedly) not testing it. (Their claim)
Never can be too sure

(35,472 posts)Had my name and last 4 of my SSNumber. Wanted to replace my old paper card with a new plastic one, then wanted to get a DNA test by sending me a swab to take a sample.
I called back the number he gave me and was from him, but not Medicaid.
Called the number on my card and told it wasnt them. I had told him Id just go to there office around the corner from me and hung up on him. Why do 90% of scam callers always have a South Asian accent?

(24,121 posts)"No, you should not have a plastic or metal Social Security card. The Social Security Administration (SSA) recommends keeping your Social Security card in a secure place, such as a safe or with other important documents, and not carrying it with you. The SSA also advises against laminating or using a plastic replica, as these can interfere with security features and may not be valid."
Glad I googled that--I didn't know that I should not carry it on my person. 😎
