Southern Baptists target porn, sports betting, same-sex marriage and willful childlessness

Southern Baptists meeting this week in Dallas will be asked to approve resolutions calling for a legal ban on pornography and a reversal of the U.S. Supreme Courts approval of same-sex marriage.
The proposed resolutions call for laws on gender, marriage and family based on what they say is the biblically stated order of divine creation. They also call for legislators to curtail sports betting and to support policies that promote childbearing.
The Southern Baptist Convention, the nations largest Protestant denomination, is also expected to debate controversies within its own house during its annual meeting Tuesday and Wednesday such as a proposed ban on churches with women pastors. There are also calls to defund the organizations public policy arm, whose anti-abortion stance hasnt extended to supporting criminal charges for women having abortions.
In a denomination where support for President Donald Trump is strong, there is little on the advance agenda referencing specific actions by Trump since taking office in January in areas such as tariffs, immigration or the pending budget bill containing cuts in taxes, food aid and Medicaid.

(6,919 posts)The response was swift, and at times overwhelming. The story was picked up by multiple national publications and networks, along with local news organizations that did their own stories sourced by our database. It has attracted more than 1 million visitors. More importantly, leaders of the Southern Baptist Convention, who had long rejected victims demands for action, finally had no choice. The SBC president immediately called for a shift in the culture for the countrys second-largest faith group and warned against viewing the stories as an attack from secular media.
Since then, the SBC overhauled its national conference to focus on the newspapers findings, and thousands of delegates approved reforms that made it easier to oust offending churches and more difficult to shield abusers from accountability. The Texas Legislature changed state law to allow nonprofits and churches to share information about sex abuse allegations against former employees without opening the door to lawsuits. But our work continues, spurred by the responses of more than 350 people who wrote to us after Abuse of Faith was published, many of them victims of sexual abuse. With their help, we published a follow-up story in June.

(297 posts)plainly states in red letters, the words of Jesus that it is man's freewill to accept or not accept to believe and follow the gospel. It states that the way to bring people to follow is to live your life so others want to be like you. No where does it say for man to force his belief on anyone because it causes people to turn away and reject it .But here we are with that being their only objective to force others with laws to conform them to believe what they believe and act as they act. This action by them is totally wrong in all respects. These same people support politicians like Mike Johnson who think politics gives them a free pass to lie. Maybe they should back a law with serious penalties for any lies by politicians running or elected to office instead of trying to classify one sin over another and dividing people further .
