Birders
Related: About this forumTwo DOZEN wild turkeys just strolled through my yard!
The biggest flock I've ever seen here. Last year, I saw a flock of 20, but there were more this time. It was really cool to see so many! They're not especially common in this part of Missouri (just outside Kansas City), although a couple of our county parks have big flocks. This is the most I've seen outside of those.

(24,781 posts)I love wild turkeys. Theyre so smart. People often think the arent but the really are intelligent birds.

(9,509 posts)In the tiny MT prairie town we used to live in (population around 200), there were 4 'town deer' and about 60 turkeys. The deer generally stayed together and one even sported a big red dog collar one of the caring kids put on her to alert visiting hunters not to shoot a citizen of town.
Now, those turkeys.... yeah, those guys. LOL They divided themselves into 3 very territorial gangs. Walking anywhere in town often put one in a situation of crossing paths with the big birds. If one gang was going on an east west dirt road and another was crossing its path on a north south alley.... trouble
Dogs would bark from the safety of their fenced yards, but NEVER when they were being walked outside their yards. The dogs were pretty terrified of those turkey gangs.

(8,604 posts)We did not have turkeys roaming about when I was growing up. There are now deer wandering thru town as well!
I'm guessing it just took them this long to figure out how to survive in suburbia.

(8,049 posts)Theyre protected and monitored by a wildlife vet. I love them, and would be extremely vindictive toward anyone threatening them.
Very few Republicans live in this town.
