grief

grief hits the sledgehammer in the slaughterhouse
speeding bullets to the heart from a hidden sniper
tears balance fall a river of no source and no end
relief arrives confusion doubt or uncertainty set in
illusions of control are lost a spirit spiraling down
even the depth of the stomach is never far enough
rooted solidly to the earth stretching hope further
knowing that every wish is dead before it is born
all blackness overwhelms light as the soul sputters
one last ash encrusted ember glows at the center
when does it fail carrying the love and life inside
a husk left behind to whither and be blown away
as dust sifts into dust mixing into the long eternity
creation has ended and only replacement remains
