(12,751 posts)Most of my retired friends mention how precious time has become, how prioritizing is easier, how love for the simple things deepens, how they notice more

Congratulations! Enjoy every moment.

(5,778 posts)I've been telling people that, in general, the sooner you retire the longer you will live! I don't know if that is true. Would love to see a study.
I suppose it depends on what you retire FROM, and what you are retiring TO!
At any rate, Happy Retirement! And, see you at the No Kings protests!

(604 posts)I retired the first day of September, 2023. I am now working again, but only 4 hours a day, and I love it. No stress, no mandatory on-call, no phone waking me at all hours, no 100 hour weeks. My 4 hour shift gives me a good morning workout, and I am done for the day at 9am. I hope you enjoy retirement as much as I do.

(3,390 posts)no set time frame pressure. Up when you want and to bed when you want. A glorious feeling to be sure.
I remember people told me it would take a period of adjustment and I accomplished that on the drive home from work and never looked back. Retiring at 63 I have had 27 years of retirement and am so grateful to have enjoyed it immensely for the most part. I wish you the best in the coming years.

(43,179 posts)The important thing is, don't define your life by the work you used to do. There's so much more to life, as you will soon learn. Spend time getting to know your family and friends, neighbors, community where you live, etc. Start a new hobby, take time to read good books, visit the library, do some volunteer work. I have been retired 9 years already and I'm having a blast.
