Backlash for gun instructor refusing to train those 18-20 years old following SCOTUS decision

Permits to carry open to 18-20 year olds
A state-certified firearms instructor says, despite a recent law change opening gun permitting for 18-20-year-olds, he won’t be teaching that age group—a stance that’s already getting backlash just days into this new chapter of gun ownership in Minnesota.

Young adults can now apply for their permit to carry following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to reject an appeal from Minnesota, which had asked to restore the state’s ban on that age group.

“It’s more important to have safety,” Lucky Rosenbloom, a state-certified firearms instructor, said. “These kids are impulsive. They’re not going to think. Some of these kids still think that they’re invincible,” he added about his decision to not have 18–20-year-olds in his classes.

“I’m ruling it out. I will not teach [them],” Rosenbloom added. “I’m not worried about the backlash.”

I think a minimum age is within an instructor's discretion for their course. When I was teaching, there were people I asked to leave because I did not think they had the proper attitude to carry safely.

1. He says it's important to have safety, but doesn't want to impart that information to a certain age group,

which can now legally be permitted. If he's that concerned about safety, I would think that he would want ALL in that age group to go through his class, so he can impart his wisdom, and perhaps disqualify those who actually show disregard.

2. I am guessing the instructor is refusing to teach the permit to carry course

to the 18-20 range but they would be allowed to take other safety courses.

As you note, those in that age group can simply go elsewhere so it does beg the question shouldn't they be taught by the best instructor? He could be he is looking at liability issues. If someone who took an instructor's class goes out and does something stupid, there could be civil consequences to an instructor who signed off that the person passed their class.
