update-

from this thread- https://www.democraticunderground.com/11477331

so, saw the surgeon on thurs.
the 1st thing he said floored me- you can keep the ostomy if u dont want another surgery.
they told me he had a dry sense of humor. i gotta wonder if that was a joke. who would choose this?
anyway.
i need to get a test b4 they can do the reversal, but soon. he stressed that they want me truly recovered, cuz this isnt an emergency. it’s elective now, different rules.
i was cleared to eat veggies again. phew. i didnt think it was possible to get sick of chocolate, but i kinda am. i had a dietician tell me ‘butter and sugar r your friends’. i’ve eaten a ton of ice cream, and i’m getting tired of that, too.
when i got my staples out, i was down to 115#. pretty sure i’ve put a few back on, but they didnt weigh me.
i’ve been working hard on my rehab, and doing well. lots of yoga, and (almost) daily piano practice.
u know that saying- u dont know what you’ve got til it’s gone? that works for bad things, too. i had so much anxiety. i mean, i was basically hangry for the last 5 years. plus all this doctor nonsense. my brain needed some rehab.
i stumbled upon a dog management scheme that lessened that stress, too.
amazing how much more productive 1 is when not swimming in adrenaline.
i’m feeling nearly human, and rly have my appetite back. can eat like i used to. thinking after the next surgery, i’ll enjoy having a belly again. maybe i need a tat over my scar.
this whole thing has been surreal.
yesterday was inspiring. 1 goal in my rehab is to get my ass out to wave a sign soon.

ya know, it’s easy to have hope when u know your own hard work will bring results.
the state of the world, not so much.

lol. my dear state rep and committee person read this on fb. bless her heart, she read all the way to the end, and offered to get me a ride to the next protest.

my self talk has changed it’s tune. maybe that’s a temporary delusion, but…
instead of my daily routine seeming like a millstone i shouldnt have to drag, it’s- this is the way. this is what normal, healthy ppl do to stay that way. i’ve been doing this for a long time, i’ll do it for a long time still. i’ll hold on as long as i want to hold on.

yoga and singing lessons got me this far. but i’ve been dying to get out and sing w ppl. i made a friend who has a song circle every month. i went once and havent been up to it since. she’s gonna drag me soon, tho. great lady. bunch of old folkie hippies.

... I live for those moments. Then the big victories become plums and the major disasters become sidesteps and obstacles that can be over come with a handful of the small victories we sometimes ignore.

they were sending busses to wis all last month. they work their lil butts off.
it’s also the antidote to the part where i’ve just given up on ppl. found myself sick and alone, cuz i just didnt keep up my connections. many didnt deserve it, but it’s a muscle that withers quickly if u dont use it. they’re a rly great bunch. i love where i live.

the thing about chgo- it isnt rly a big city, it’s a bunch of small towns, stitched together. even tho it’s been over 100 yrs, they still r what they r.
my hood is a college town, but also a hippie haven. just seedy enough to b cheap,
bars and cheap restaurants, and great public trans. evanston, next door, was dry for ages, and we were the 1st train stop for the sailors at great lakes, and kids from the posh burbs.
30% of the ppl here make their living as a creative of some kind.
it’s a truly weird and wonderful place.

btw, that state rep i mentioned was point on both marriage equality and legal weed. she’s a great friend.

pie hole and hari su were a couple that i loved, but just when i find 1 i like, it goes away.
i usually get some sativa for daytime and an indica for nights. i read the reviews sometimes, but usually choose by $$$.
