Public protests in Russia remain rare—and now seem to be confined to places outside the capital, or even ethnically majority Russian places. 2022 was the high-water mark of protests that were explicitly anti-war, but after that an exodus of people fleeing mobilization and the crack down on protests, there had been very little. People last went out in mass in defiance of the regime after Navalny died, and on the day of his funeral. But these were more implicit criticism of the regime rather than explicit or direct.
