HARRISON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS HEAR DISTRICT 71 PRIMARY ELECTION EVIDENCE
CLARKSBURG, W.Va. The Harrison County Commission has heard arguments from both sides of the House of Delegates District 71 Republican primary, and a decision is expected next week.
Incumbent Republican Laura Kimble lost to challenger Tim McNeely by six votes election night. That total was certified, then confirmed during a recount requested by Kimble. State law says when the recount is contested, the county commission will be the deciding body.
Counsel for the incumbent, Jeff Kimble, said the closed Republican primary created several opportunities for errors to occur. When the Kimble team learned that as many as 90 Republican ballots were illegally cast in Fayette County, they began to zero in on what they were trying to convince commissioners.
Michelle Holly, the clerk in Fayette County, basically said 90 ballots had been illegally cast by non-Republicans now that the Republican primary had been closed, Kimble said.
