Seriously, I hope they can find a qualified replacement. The job is harder than it looks.

There is still a ferry running between Parkersburg WV and Blennerhassett Island. I think it used to go to Belpre, Ohio, but they rerouted U.S. Rt. 50 so there are 3 bridges you can use now. According to a site about Ohio River ferries, there are a handful still running.

3. Yeah, you'd have to be pretty qualified. I'm sure there's some licensure you need to have obtained.

Edit to add: The video accompanying the story, about the ferry and its tradition, is actually pretty interesting. I'd love to try it out some day.

a couple of times. It's small, and if the Ohio River is up, it's quite a ride. They close it if the river is too rough. There are always rumors in this part of the country. and a terrific rumor mill to keep them going.
