Alaska Airlines unveils $200 million training center in Renton

As Alaska Airlines tries to grow into a major international carrier, the company unveiled a training center in Renton last week where it will bring thousands of pilots, flight attendants and customer-service staff to hone their skills.

The 660,000-square-foot facility, located in a recently acquired property at Longacres, is replete with classrooms, flight simulators and even mock gates.

"To have everything is huge for us," Jason Berry, Alaska's chief operating officer, said on a tour of the facility Thursday. "To bring all of our front-line workforce together, to be trained together, it just creates even more togetherness than we’ve had."

Training previously was spread across five buildings in SeaTac, where Alaska Air Group Inc. is headquartered.
