Tsunami advisory issued for Washington coast

A tsunami watch was upgraded to an advisory for the Washington coast.

Coastal areas are advised to stay alert, as stated by the National Weather Service (NWS).

The advisory spans from Alaska to the California-Mexico border, as shown on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s online map.

It comes after an 8.7 magnitude earthquake hit off the coast of Russia on Tuesday at 4:25, NWS reported.

while Seismologists are claiming direction of the highest energy is toward Hawaii and then parts of South America. It displaced a lot of water. I would be very surprised if the west coast saw any tsunami damage, Hawaii is giving a chance of 3 to 10 feet. Everyone from the Pacific basin to the west coast needs to stay alert to local news.

Update: Even Japan's impact looks to be minimal: The Japan Meteorological Agency said a tsunami measuring 40 centimeters (1.3 feet) was detected in Tokachi, on the southern coast of Hokkaido, the northernmost of the country’s main islands. less than the initial forecast of up to 3 meters (9.8 feet).
