Filson to close Kent distribution center, lay off workers as operations shift to Mississippi

Seattle-based outdoor clothing retailer Filson will shut down its Kent distribution facility Aug. 29, the company confirmed Friday.

Thirty-five workers will be laid off due to the closure, according to a company spokesperson. The 228,055-square-foot facility at 6111 S. 228th St. was acquired by Bridge Industrial for $44.3 million in December. Filson is one of multiple tenants.

The company will instead partner with a third-party logistics provider in Mississippi, the spokesperson said.

Filson did not say who the new provider is but said it offers “more advanced technology and a more central location." It described the transition as necessary to improve customer service.
