Female leaders question Utah County Clerk's appointment of deputy clerk criticized for sexist remarks

UTAH COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — Over 80 female leaders throughout the state are calling for equality in Utah elections after an outspoken conservative College Republican influencer was appointed to be Utah County’s Deputy Elections Clerk.

The letter comes from elected officials, former officeholders, business leaders, and community leaders, all of whom are calling for equality and respect in Utah County elections.

“As female elected officials and community leaders, we believe voters must trust that elections are administered professionally, impartially, and with an unwavering commitment to serving the public,” the letter reads. “We also believe our communities are strongest when public service is open to and representative of all citizens.”

It also specifically references the recent appointment of 23-year-old Kai Schwemmer as Chief Deputy Clerk in Utah County.
