Buying 3 Oregon islands at auction may cost less than you think

Story by Janet Eastman, oregonlive.com

Three islands totaling 20 acres in the Lower Umpqua River will be offered to the public for the first time through an auction by their owner, timber company Roseburg Forest Products.

The minimum bid is $24,500, or $1,225 per acre, for the group of islands between Scottsburg and Reedsport. Sealed bids are due June 3 to Realty Marketing/Northwest auction company.

The islands range from 2 to 12 acres and are located south of the Siuslaw National Forest. They are zoned for estuarine conservation, which limits development under Oregon land use law. Allowable uses may include water-dependent recreation and aquaculture.
