Man pleads guilty to false US citizenship claim on North Carolina voter form for 2024 election

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A Canadian national pleaded guilty on Monday to falsely claiming U.S. citizenship on North Carolina voter registration applications.

According to court documents, 70-year-old Denis Bouchard falsely claimed to be a U.S. citizen to vote in the 2022 and 2024 presidential elections. He faces up to five years in prison at sentencing.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Bouchard has lived in the United States since the 1960s but never obtained U.S. citizenship.

“This shows that our elections remain under attack from aliens,” said U.S. Attorney Ellis Boyle. ”We will not tolerate noncitizens lying to illegally vote here in North Carolina. Every eligible citizen should have confidence that an alien voting illegally will get sniffed out and prosecuted."
