Azotea secures 2nd Ward council seat in runoff election

HANNIBAL — For the second time in a month, April Azotea emerged victorious at the polls for Hannibal's 2nd Ward city council seat.

Following the April 8 general election, Azotea secured just over 45% of the votes cast, while challenger Tammy Riley finished second with just over 40%. Earl T. Hughes III secured a little over 14% of those votes cast.

In accordance with Hannibal's city charter, since no candidate received a majority of votes — 50% plus one — a special runoff election was required between the top two vote-getters, Azotea and Riley.

In Tuesday's runoff, 292 votes, or 15.7% of registered voters, were cast in Hannibal's 2nd Ward. Azotea received 190 votes, or 65.07%, while Riley secured 102, or 34.93%.
