Special Election set to replace Judge Jefferson

VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) – Warren County Board of Supervisors announced there will be a Special Election set for Nov. 3, 2026 to replace Justice Court Judge James Jefferson Jr. after his recent death.

Jefferson died Thursday, Feb. 26 at St. Dominic Hospital. He served as justice court judge for the Central District since 2009 and was most recently re-elected in 2023.

Warren County Attorney Blake Teller said the first step in the process was notifying the State Election Commission that a Special Election was needed to elect a new judge.

After expressing her condolences over the loss of Jefferson and everything he had done for the betterment of Warren County, BOS President Kellie Barfield explained the process to find a replacement would be initiated by the Board. She said they would look for people who were interested in becoming Justice Court Judge and who would also have the appropriate qualifications.
