Mississippians turn out for 2025 municipal elections
ACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) Amid anticipated low turnout for municipal elections, Mississippians throughout the metro and state made their voices heard in Tuesdays general election.
Diminished voter turnout and election issues have plagued the states various elections in recent years. Low turnout in municipal races four years ago remained on many voters minds. Still, new faces in various races brought more people to the polls in 2025, especially in Jackson. For instance, the citys Ward 1 Council Race had its highest voter turnout in 20 years.
Below is the turnout for elections over the last three cycles in Jackson.
Not all races are competitive. Candidates for mayor in Flowood, Madison and Ridgeland routinely run unopposed in the general election. None of the cities mayoral candidates have had opposition in the general election in decades. However, many cities have competitive races that may lead to a shake-up of leadership.
