Insider: AG's office reviewing state police investigation of ex-Rep. Neil Friske (R)
Lansing Attorney General Dana Nessel's office says it is reviewing the findings of an investigation conducted by the Michigan State Police into former state Rep. Neil Friske.
Friske, a Charlevoix Republican, was arrested around 3 a.m. on June 20, 2024, for a "felon-level offense" after police responded to "a report of a male with a gun, as well as possible shots that were fired." Friske was released the next day after Ingham County Prosecutor John Dewane told Lansing police to keep investigating after they presented him with a report suggesting sexual assault charges.
Dewane eventually referred the case to Nessel's office "based on potential crimes in multiple county jurisdictions." Michigan State Police have been investigating the case for more than a year, but appear to have concluded that probe.
"All material concerning additional investigation conducted by MSP has been delivered to our office," Nessel spokesman Danny Wimmer said. "The matter remains under review by the Dept. of Attorney General, and that review remains ongoing."
