MI-AG: Democrat Mark Totten launches campaign for state attorney general
Lansing Democrat Mark Totten, the former U.S. Attorney for Michigan's Western District, announced Wednesday he'll run to be the state's next attorney general in 2026.
Totten of Kalamazoo previously served as Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's chief legal counsel. In a statement, Totten released a list of early endorsements he had received and said Michigan needs "a fearless attorney general who will fight for justice, fairness and the rule of law."
"I am prepared to take on anyone from criminal gangs to greedy corporations to the administration who seeks to undermine our rights or take advantage of Michiganders," Totten said. "We have a lot on the line, and no one will fight harder for you than I will."
Attorney general is the top law enforcement position in Michigan. The state's current attorney general, Democrat Dana Nessel, can't run again in 2026 because of term limits.
