As incumbent wins controversial Soil and Water Conservation election, calls for redo mount
NEW ORLEANS An election for the Crescent Soil and Water Conservation District, a race that drew unusual online attention due to its rarity, has concluded with incumbent Erica Johnson declared the winner.
However, the outcome has left many voters frustrated and confused, with some now demanding a redo amidst allegations of voter suppression and poor organization.
The Crescent Soil and Water Conservation District, which serves Jefferson, Orleans, St. Bernard, St. Charles, and St. John Parishes, announced Sunday that Central City urban farmer Erica Johnson was re-elected to its Board of Supervisors.
These supervisors play a crucial role in working with local landowners and farmers to protect natural resources and provide conservation resources. Johnson was initially appointed to her seat in 2022 and faced a challenge from outdoorsman Lloyd Landry IV in this recent election.
