Ballot supply runs low at multiple polling sites during conservation election

NEW ORLEANS — Paper ballots reportedly ran out at several polling places across New Orleans and nearby parishes during Saturday’s rare special election.

Voters tell WWL Louisiana that paper ballots ran out at polling sites in Algiers, Metairie, and New Orleans East, forcing them to be turned away and redirected to other locations.

The issue reportedly included New Harmony High School, one of only three polling sites open in New Orleans for the Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors race.

"Why would you limit the amount of people that could turn out, or turn away and call it a valid election," said Fred Goodrich, a voter who couldn't cast a ballot. "When one hour of voting is determining who gets put on the board of supervisors."
