Related: About this forumThere was an active shooter incident at Christiana Mall
in Newark. This was just after 7pm, or thats when our son texted us. He was working and helped some people get to safety out the back of his store. Shooting was in or near the food court. Several news stations and Emergency Mgmt reporting at least 3 shot. Searching for shooter. The mall and mall road have been shut down.

(6,070 posts)Wow Delaware is on the permissive side with gun rights, but it does have a requirement that you have a duty to flee unless defending your own workplace, or defending your home. So it looks like some random person even with a legal CCW permit is supposed to back away from a shooting situation.
Here is my source, I'm not advocating their pro gun stance https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/resources/ccw_reciprocity_map/de-gun-laws/

(12,592 posts)As to how he handled the active shooter situation at the mall. She told him he should have kicked the customers (3 people) out into the hallway where everybody was running away from the food court. He should not have brought the elderly couple into the store to escape out the back. And he should have locked the store up and done the nightly count out/shut down procedures before leaving through the normal path (which would have taken him into the food court).
He said he listened to her, told her he locked the store, locked the iPads in the safe (there is no cash in the store or drawers that need counting), then evacuated the area following the mall-wide rules when a fire alarm goes off. He also said told her that she probably never had active shooter training in school, college, or a previous job, but that he followed the training put out by the FBI to a T.
Thankfully he only plans on working there until he can get an internship.
