Arkansas ranks 45th in child well-being for 2nd year

For the second year in a row, Arkansas ranked No. 45 in overall child well-being, down two spots from its ranking in 2022 and 2023, according to the latest Kids Count Data Book published by the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

The report measures child welfare on a national and state level using 16 indicators categorized into four domains: economic well-being, education, family and community, and health.

"We often say that we try not to compare from year to year, but it is absolutely worth noting that Arkansas continues to be ranked as one of the bottom 10 states every time this report comes out," Keesa Smith, executive director for Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families said during a conference call with reporters.

The last time the state did not rank in the bottom 10 was in the 2021 report, which ranked Arkansas No. 39.
