Horses Saturday * Maddie, Pete and the New Guy (NG) * + Around The Farm

Maddie and Pete still eat in their corral as grass re-grows.

Eventually they make their way back out to their five acres.
And munch on that grass.

Yesterday the new neighbor horse was back out. I'm calling him
the New Guy (NG), presuming he's male.

He had a Brown-headed Cowbird along for the ride.

He came up to the fence and we talked. Nice horse. Friendly.

A bit later they headed out to his pasture.

Well, NG saw his neighbors at the fence and trotted back to them.

Shortly afterwards Pete walked away, Maddie followed, and
NG watched them go. And started in whinnying.

Meanwhile our two grazed.

Took Pete's pic here because I liked the look on his face.

This morning he stood in rising sun light.

Finally these two tools get a break. Laurie's evened out the ground
inside and outside the barn. Nicely.

It was my turn to clean the horses' water tanks. We use an old pool
skimmer, brush and hose with sprayer.

The skimmer works well.

Done. I'd forgotten, however, that the tanks needed to be level. By
the time I realized, the left side tank was already higher in the front.
Once Maddie and Pete drink it down I'll take up the rake and hoe
and make it better.

Looking through the kitchen window. It's nice to see "the Kids" so close.

Grazing on the growing-back-corral-grass.

Backyard view of the big pasture.

Laurie has put up a windscreen at the open end of the barn.

She left space for the wind to blow in Shadow's face.

Finishing up the outside staining project.

Tack Room nears completion. The sign says it all.

There's a family of Killdeer here. I have never heard a sound
like "kill deer" from them, so I call them Plovers.
(Chattering plover or noisy plover were alternate names used by
early naturalists in the 1700s and 1800s to describe the distinct,
loud, and insistent call. google)

Shadow in her yard at sunset.

KC emerging from tall grass.

And settled onto one of his many windowsills.

absolute awe of Laurie. I cut (some) grass and washed my car this morning thinking I really did something. Then I come here and see Laurie. I will now take my hand off my back.
