Music Appreciation
Related: About this forumI've posted this song before by the Chambers Brothers, but I feel the need to post it again,
the first time I heard it was in Vietnam when Adrian Cronauer played it, we were getting ready to head into the bush, waiting on a traffic jam when it came over the radio, our platoon rocked out to it.

(31,731 posts)I really heard this sound. Mind expanding. Then all musical hell broke out. Too much truly great music to catalogue. Just glad I was 18 and heard totally awesome music.

One of the very best all-time tunes MarineCombatEngineer! Thanks especially for giving us this eleven minutes plus recording, from which the hit single was edited.
According to band member, Willie Chambers, Columbia Records wasn't going to record the song. Their producer thought differently.
He told the band, "When we get our recording date, you guys show up an hour early, were going to go in the studio, were going to turn on the tape, were going to play it live, were going to do it like a live performance. Were going to record it and whatever we get were going to have to live with it. We cant play back, we cant overdub, we cant splice, we cant fix something if theres a mistake, were just going to have to live with it. He says, Im probably going to lose my job, but thats how important it is to me to record this song.
Willie Chambers "When we got our moment, we went in the studio and did it in one take. Time Has Come Today was done in one take. There was no listening back we couldnt listen back. When we came to the end of it, we had no idea where it was going to go. Once we ended it, we shut down the machines and then we left the studio and came back at the time we were supposed to."

(11,184 posts)got curious. I've always loved the "hit single," but this one-take gem is the best.
