57 years Ago Today, Led Zeppelin's debut album was released

57 years ago today, Led Zeppelin‘s debut album was released. It was recorded over just 36 hours at Olympic Studios in Barnes, London, costing the band just £1,782. Most of the tracks were performed ‘live’ in the studio, with very few overdubs added. The groundbreaking heavy rock LP spent more than a year—71 weeks—on the UK album chart, and the blues-based quartet became one the most influential bands in rock history. WATCH the video of Babe I’m Gonna Leave You, a TV segment that was recorded before a small audience on Danmark Radio / Danish TV in Copenhagen. (1969)

They got ten copies. My friends and I bought the first four.

Rushed home and listened to it on our family console record player.

Music was never the same for me. One of my Top Ten of all time.

Listening to it today, in my 70s, realizing that my Mom was probably aghast at the lyrics. I'm one of those that often ignore the lyrics and just like the music.

My parents were aghast at almost all the music from late 60s early 70s my sister and I loved. They called it noise and screaming. I kept my Who’s Next album cover out of their sight, afraid they’d make me get rid of it. I remember my dad when he heard the beginning of The Immigrant Song. He asked me, is that guy sick?

Becoming Led Zeppelin is a decent documentary about their first year and a half. I really enjoyed watching it. Another good sample of their early period is their BBC stuff, always a good source for UK music.
