This portrait I will be calling “American Woman” after the song from a Canadian group saying they don’t want America. Seems appropriate for the times.

I will let the viewer wonder if the face portrayed here is the insanity of the maga woman or the desperate, hopeless rage of a non-maga woman watching her rights and everything else being taken away.

Do you have a book of your works? I'd love to see more of them!

My new book is The Gladdened Heart: the ART of music. It deals with how artists through the ages have depicted that which cannot be seen: Music. It was a joy to write and a lot of fun, too. I was able to do some traveling saw two Caravaggio's in Malta (which I thought I'd never see!). And in Spain I went to Seville's art museum with a Botero I have liked. Then, Barcelona, which is truly revolutionary.

It isn't long, just about 100 pages and it deals with some forgotten art: that of music record jackets (if you are old enough to remember those 78s!). In addition to works by artists throughout western art who were inspired by and painted the lute. Artists loved painting it because of its beauty and its lovely sound, before the era of large venue orchestral music (and one with orchestral music, painted by Degas of course!, along with his ballerinas).

There is really feeling in the movement.


I love working in pastels and charcoal. Such variation just from the force of the stroke. Firm stroke more depth, lighter stroke ethereal softness.

By the way some pieces are done when you leave them unfinished. Consider framing it as it is.
