The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsPhoto hosting - I know I've asked the same stupid question before, and I never seem to use the answers, but I'm asking -
(after all, one site after another has gone from being "FANTASTIC SITE !!!! GREATEAST EVAH !!" to "accursed swamp!" in remarkably short order) so ... what's CURRENTLY the most ***trouble-free*** (incl. DU-friendly) site for posting photos and graphics ??
I'm running old software on old platforms (OSX, Linux, occasionally even Win8), so anything which avoids incompatibility issues should help.

(19 posts)Use Imgur
It's 100% FREE
It has unlimited uploads
It has a smart phone app for both iOS and Android
It has extensive privacy features
To get the code to post a picture on here simply right click on the picture, select "open image in new tab", then in that new window simply copy and paste the URL which will end in .jpg or .gif
And you're off to the races.

(23,500 posts)I like Imgur and it is easy to use. Sometimes it is clunky, but I figure that's my laptop and modem.
At least one DUer based in Great Britain said they can't see images from Imgur. I checked and because Imgur doesn't vet uploads, and there might be content like pornography, Imgur posts aren't viewable in GB.
I just learned of a site called Post Image (ty, DiamondDog!) and I am going to try it.
Good luck.

(19 posts)before I used Imgur. It's a really good image host and the only trouble I had with it was that it's reliability wasn't as good as Imgur. For instance, Imgur is basically up 100% of the time whereas Post Image is up 90%-95% of the time. Also, Imgur has an app whereas Post Image does not.

(23,165 posts)Click inside the big rectangle where it says drag and drop
Choose the photo from your device
Give it a couple of sends to upload
Scroll down just a bit to "recent uploads"
Hit the red "copy" button on the right
Paste the link into your DU post

(23,500 posts)I didn't have to, but if i use it, it might make it easier to find what I upload
Thanks for the tip.

(12,168 posts)I had to uncheck the "mature comments and posts" in the settings in the beginning of this year. What I'm about to warn about might not bother you.
I went through this annoyance earlier in the year where suddenly Imgur posters started a thing on Tuesday called HTT (Happy Titty Tuesday) and on Thursdays is THT (Thigh High Thursdays). At first I was like alright whatever but after while it became super annoying.
As a woman, I don't want to view photos of other women's cleavage and in their lingerie.
Imgur is simple enough to navigate. There's plenty of progressive/liberal/Democratic political memes and posts so that's always good to view. I've never once view anything else pertaining to the opposition.

(23,500 posts)looking for memes and pics for the Sunday post. I collect what I want and save them to a folder on my laptop. When I upload to Imgur, I can load them all at once, then name the collection and sort the items. On Sunday, I have them all ready to go. I open in a new tab and copy the link, so the images show. I don't use Imgur to find images. It is really clunky on my laptop for that.
I have noticed in my searches that if there are posts from the opposition, they aren't funny. Way too heavy on body parts and lockstep loyalty.

(12,168 posts)Also, thanks for taking your time and posting your Sunday images and memes. I know how much work it is.

(23,500 posts)and no heavy lifting!
Luckily, I worked in computer operations before I retired. Hardest part is finding things that are funny!
And thank you. You are one of the biggest fans of my post
And I appreciate your comments very much.

(12,168 posts)I know it's an abundance of work and that's why I use Halloween images from previous years with adding some new content each year for the Halloween Countdowns.
Always my pleasure!! I'm off to work, enjoy your day!

(23,500 posts)If you want to look at the ones for Halloween, I'll DU email them to you.
Pace yourself!
Niagara
(12,168 posts)I follow about 30 FB Halloween pages so I'm set there. I do like to use my previous images as well so it's not all laziness for me.
I also have to mark my images with an x in the "describe your image" area on Imgur so I know if I already used that image or not. If I forget to mark it that I already used it, that can be confusing.
My client fell outside on a day that I didn't work and banged herself pretty bad. She's in a rehabilitation center so I get to sweet talk her into going for walks with me so she's not in her private room all day. I'm hoping she get released this week!

(23,500 posts)let me know
Maybe the rest of the world is like me. I don't remember memes I saw a year ago. lol
Hope your client has a full, speedy recovery. I know someone who is over 90, fell, broke their leg. I figured they wouldn't have a good outcome, but they are doing well. Therapy to strengthen the leg is next.
Niagara
(12,168 posts)Thank you, Marthe. Sometimes these falls don't end well. I hope that the person that you know continues to do well.

(42,574 posts)If I can turn some of it off, that's an improvement.
Ironically, now I can't find the one photo I was in such a hurry to post !
Niagara
(12,168 posts)If you click on the cosplay photo, there will be 3 dots on the right hand side above the image. Click on the 3 dots and you can block that particular user and confirm your action.
I've had an account with Imgur since 2018 and all of a sudden I'm subjected to other women's cleavage and lingerie that eventually annoyed me. I'm fairly adaptable but enough is enough already.
There's also a search bar. There use to be a way to search by dates as well but I don't remember how to do that exactly.
I hope this helps a bit.

(9,752 posts)If an image you upload to Postimages exceeds the view limit, it displays the dreaded blue box...

I have been using imgur lately without any problems, YMMV
Good luck!
