You are what you watch: This The YT Algorithm knows well

Today's my first normal day since back from a Family Reunion over Easter Week. Well, yes, that was interesting. Have recovered.

Exposed to new set of Conspiracy Theories. Many being repeated by some well educated, objectively intelligent family members — not just those meeting neither preceding descriptor.

Did have some interesting discussions about how such dreck came to be believed. YouTube was the most oft cited source. Many who said this also complained about the sorts of things that showed up as suggestions on their own YT pages. We agreed that the Almighty YT AlgoGod was to blame.

On YT this morn, whilst watching my New Favourite live-stream (a Stork Nest in Germany), I became aware of the Suggestions being presented and immediately recalled those discussions.

These particular suggestions were clearly based on clips I had previously watched, along with a couple of new ones of similar vein. Of course, that is precisely how the AlgoGod is supposed to work.

I’ve decided to share the screenshot made at that moment of awareness. The plan was to send it to some family. I then decided to share it with DU family as well.

This YT suggestion list reinforces my belief that it is true that You Are What You Watch

1. Poor youtube

All that money and effort and they still got nuttin' on me.

2. YouTube "knows" that any news or opinion video will get a "not interested" from me...

... and that imitation intelligence generated slop will get worse.

I rarely see any of that on my YouTube home page.

Unfortunately YouTube will also deliver MAGA shit to anyone who wants to wallow in MAGA shit all day.

There's a lot of pseudo-science and medically quackery there too. That's another kind of shit video that rarely shows up on my home page.

To me the implication is clear. YouTube knows it is spreading shit but they just don't care so long as it's profitable.

I gather Facebook behaves in a similar manner so I understand why people stay with it. They are not seeing the worst of it.

I suppose YouTube could be considered "Social Media" depending on how you use it. I've never posted a comment there. Other than that, DU is my only social media.

3. Too aggressive

The algorithm is too aggressive. Always gives too much of unrelated thinking i will go for it. The new Queue really sucks. I do not sign into YT.
