I always found transcribing a major pain using pen & ink. Even pencil where I could erase was tedious.
Twice, I was asked to transcribe a piano part for a friend's wedding. In both cases, the wife to be had a friend that was going to play piano & sing, but couldn't play by ear. So, they asked me to figure it out & transcribe.
When I got done, I felt like we shouldn't have to give a gift!
Is it easier to do on a digital device?

(71,137 posts)easier for a musician with sight reading skills. I just created the notes and rests thru trial and error lol. it's a learning curve for sure but I have created other tune with multiple verses and choruses that turned out reasonably well. now adding chords is a bit more difficult you can use the free version of noteflight.com to practice
If I had to write stuff out now, my first step would be to find notation software. Has to be less work.
