Does anyone know what the Dow was on Biden's first day and last day in office ???

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Omaha Steve (a host of the The DU Lounge forum).

I suck at researching apparently.

I tried several different approaches but couldn't find the info.

Did he break the record for largest increase in 4 years ???

The Dow is a relic, only 30 stocks, only moderately correlated with most investors stocks. Use SP 500. . . . nt Bernardo de La Paz Mar 13 #1

I started with January 21, 2021 which was Biden’s first full day in the office of POTUS. The Dow on that day closed at 31,188.38.

Biden’s last full day as POTUS when the NYSE was open was 1/17/2025. The market was closed 1/18 and 1/19 (Sat/Sun). The Dow on 1/17/2025 closed at 43,487.83.

So the Dow showed a net gain of more than 12,300 points during the Biden administration. Something to tell that annoying MAGAt at the next family gathering when they start bitching about Biden, the “demoncrats” and “their failed policies”.

Now, let’s see what has happened since the Trump/Musk regime took over:

On Inauguration Day (1/20/2025), the Dow Jones opened at 43,528.65. It peaked at 45,054.36 in February before Trump started going apeshit with tariff threats and now the Dow has lost more than 4000 points. So much winning! The Dow is currently at 40,717.12 and is down over 600 points today.

I am thankful that when I retired from government service in 2023, I had 100% of my retirement account in T-bills and none in the stock market.📉 And there is no way I will risk putting any of it back into stocks as long as the Trump regime is running things.
