Trump Administration Propaganda Taints the Minnesota Shooting Investigation
Mimi Rocah and Harry Litman
As the national outrage around the killing of Renee Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis continues to roil the country, former federal prosecutor and Westchester County District Attorney Mimi Rocah offers this incisive essay on how Trump administration rhetoric is distorting the facts of the investigation. Rocah brings a prosecutors eye to the ways political messaging can corrode the integrity of a criminal inquiry, undermining public trust in outcomes that should rest on facts rather than political talking points.
Talk to you later.
We are a country divided by what we are all viewing over and over, clip after clip of a tragic shooting and killing by an ICE agent of an unarmed U.S. citizen and mother, Renee Good. It was not inevitable that we would be so divided at this point, so early on. It is not by accident, and it is yet another tragedy upon tragedy that we will not get satisfactory answers to difficult questions.
Within hours of the ICE agent shooting, Renee Good, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem was already rendering a verdict: Good had attempted to run the agent over, weaponizing her vehicle, it was domestic terrorism, and the agent had acted in accordance with his training and shot defensively only. By Sunday, she went even further, stating that she was able to make these conclusions because she knew the facts and knew the truth.
