Rite Aid has sold the pharmacy services of most of its stores across the United States to several rivals.
The bankrupt company announced the fire sale Thursday, with CVS Pharmacy, Walgreens, Albertsons and Kroger scooping up Rite Aids pharmacy services at more than 1,000 locations.
These agreements ensure our pharmacy customers will experience a smooth transition while preserving jobs for some of our valued team members, Rite Aid CEO Matt Schroeder said in a statement, adding that the move ensures its customers will receive the pharmacy services and care they require without interruption.
CVS Pharmacy was the biggest buyer, snapping up the prescription files of more than 600 Rite Aid stores spanning 15 states and agreeing to buy 64 Rite Aid locations in Idaho, Oregon and Washington. The transactions still have to be approved by the relevant bankruptcy court.

Not a fan of CVS, I will miss my Rite Aid.

Wonder Why
(5,843 posts)1. Sell the ones close to competing stores who buy them, keep them for a while, take their
customers, then close and sell the buildings or dump the leases, firing most of the employees?
Keeping the ones with no competition and jacking up prices to stick it to the locals?
",,,while preserving jobs for some of our valued team members..." sounds like "A few top people will be kept on but the rest are history" to me.

(6,913 posts)2. I've been served so well by the pharmacist at my Rite Aid
She is Chinese American and has always advised me well, keeping me up-to-date on immunizations, helping with nutrition questions. She combines knowledge from both cultures, sometimes spotting issues that my western doctors miss.
I really hope that she gets hired by one of the competitors.
