(8,499 posts)Before you do stuff like that. Bad move on his part.
Unfortunately for him, this is probably an easy win for the prosecution and will likely lead to a dismissal.

(31,942 posts)It's called sacrifice for your principles.
That uniform means you are willing to sacrifice your life itself for the Constitution.
Posting on a website doesn't require that, and that applies first to myself.
It's going to take a hell of a lot more than lip service to stop the descent into a dictatorship.
This man obviously understands that.

He is an officer, he can't do that without his uniform, either.

(23,126 posts)He knew the risks and did it anyway. If there was a lot more of that, we might not be where we are today.

(6,687 posts)Taking orders from a corrupt and criminal commander is colluding in crime. I feel complicit as a law abiding taxpayer. We have murdered people in fishing boats and children in schools and asylum-seekers in concentration camps and ordinary citizens at protests. Our government is us.
This officer is standing for us.

(9,464 posts)He was actually not arrested for calling for impeachment while in the service and in uniform. He was arrested as a planned arrest for being in an area that was closed to the public after giving his remarks. I am sure that the Air Force will investigate, but if I were to guess, he may have been charged with failure to obey an official order or something of the sort. He was with a Member of Congress and when the Congressman left, he was no longer allowed to be where he was.

(2,293 posts)... but the clickbait-y headlines and thumbnails do not present a true picture of what and how things happened.
In any case, he was very courageous. I admire him. I hope he has investments, or a wealthy spouse, family property... or something... because it seems unlikely that he'll be able to depend on a military retirement check or medical benefits.

They are not.
This is a brave man, not a coward.
There are too many cowards.
I remember the typewriter department at Montgomery Wards.
You'd inevitably see a test piece of paper in a typewriter that read: "NOW IS THE TIME FOR ALL GOOD MEN (that's how people wrote 50 years ago) TO COME TO THE AID OF THEIR COUNTRY" or something like that.

I would like a side-by-side account of the cost of: the Iran war, the reflecting pool, the ballroom, the Qatari plane, the WWE fight; DOJ settlement payoffs (like to Ashli Babbitt) and any other vanity projects I'm missing; compared with all of the "waste and fraud" supposedly saved by the DOGE cuts
Me too! Anything else to add to this from anyone?

(13,142 posts)The point is someone standing up when sitting it out is personally intolerable.
When I was still serving, I was carefully apolitical in public. Even when I was in the reserves, I wouldn't put a political sign in my yard or a bumper sticker on my vehicle because people in my small town knew I was in the reserves. I scrupulously protected my apolitical appearance. However, the times were different. I often disagreed with the actions of a succession of GOP administrations but it was not impossible for me to remain publicly apolitical.
I am fortunate that I am not currently serving and do not have to question how much is too much. I am not confident that I would have the courage shown by the Air Force major. I am not sure that he made the right decision but I do admire his courage.
